Hi,
since yesterday the exactly color scheme is fixed. I got a information where I found every information about the used colors on the new TRAXX locos. For me it's very interesting that it is a mix of swedish NCS colors and german RAL code. The car body is colored in NCS, the caption is RAL (the word "green" RAL9005, the word "cargo" RAL9016). The snowplow is RAL3020, the chassis RAL9005.
 
Now I can go to the color dealer and order the right colors for my small TT-scale project.

I found a german company named "Prosol" with a shop in the near of my hometown. Prosol advertise also with NCS color; I can order individuell mixed colors in different schemes and small quantitys. Tomorrow I will phone the company and check the possibilitys...
 
The new question I have:
 
What other colors where using by GC? The new pictures from the TRAXX locos show the green, a red snowplow, yellow bar handles and a black or gray - I don't know which dark color it's exactly; black or gray (which gray)?

If you have a close match, maybe you could go for a very slightly weathered model. Colours usually fade after a few years of service. Also dirt and rain patterns the vehicles.

Thank you for the information about car repainters. I will phone one of them tomorrow and ask for the NCS scheme. The problem is that the new TRAXX locos was colored in 2009 with the new scheme and the different to the buyable RAL colors is to much.
 
I asked the manufacturer "Bombardier" for the color but I don't get any answer....

You may be able to order the color according to NCS specification from a car painting firm. Prices I have seen are around EUR 40/l and you can not order less than 1l or maybe if you are lucky 500ml. It will last for all GC you ever want to paint ;-) I have not tested that myself and would ask a car repainting firm in my vincinity for advice.

OK folks, I have checked this in my office with the original calibrated NCS and RAL sample collections.

First, notice that two different green colours appear in the two brochures from Green Cargo. In 2008, it was NCS S 2070-G20Y (or RAL 6018), in 2009 it is NCS 3050-G20Y.

The new colour is darker and less colour-intensive than the old one. There are a significant difference between those two.

Green Cargo´s old NCS colour is very similar to RAL 6018. It is not the same, the RAL is a little bit lighter but the match is quite close. Since the official document from Green Cargo says that both colours are OK, I guess they are.

The closest RAL match of the new Green Cargo NCS colour is RAL 6017. But those RAL and NCS colours still are FAR AWAY from each other. RAL 6017 is not good enough to use. RAL 6017 is more colourful and brighter than the original NCS and on a model it will give a "kid´s toy-like" impression.

This brings up quite a common problem, we who work with design in Sweden often have a hard time to find what we want in the RAL chart, as we prefer a little more tad colours than the RAL chart offer.

If You want to create a 2008-style Green Cargo vehicle, use RAL 6018. If You want to create a true 2009-style Green Cargo vehicle, the only way is to order a sample sheet and mix your own paint.

RAL 6017 har mycket mera svart i sig än RAL 6018. Kolla här på gröna RAL-nyanser. After playing around here for a while, RAL 6017 popped out as corresponding to GC's NCS 3050-G20Y. (I suppose it's close to RAL 6018?).

That is where we started. GC has defined their colors in NCS terms.

The only German modelpaint supplier I know of that refers to RAL shades is Weinert. In Sweden, the main focus has been on historic vehicles, and SMJ.org for example supplies appropriate shades for som older Swedish liveries. Others have tried, but not succeded to sell specially composed model train shades. Paint manufacurers do't seem to care.

Swedish MJ-shops in general has no clues about the NCS-system. The only thing that exists in those shops are the different brands of model colors and their numbers/names.

In Sweden the only support for NCS is at professional color shops

Hi,
the project is one of the brandnew GC TRAXX-Locos in TT-scale. So I need the green for that, black, red and yellow are not the problems I think. And why RAL? When you will buying modell colors for repainting you need a RAL number in germany (for exact repaints).
 
At the PDF above there is one information: "Grön RAL 6018"....I hope that I can get a small pieces of color for repaint tests.
 
A last question: is there any MJ-shop in sweden where I can get original NCS colors in small pieces?

RAL används i Tyskland av gammal hävd, inget annat. Så varför just Green Cargo just skulle betala RAL några pengar för färgkartor vore ju intressant att veta.

Det är inte klart för mig hu rman får en egen färg (RAL 4013, Habacerise vore väl smutt?) - analogt med RAL 4010 Telemagenta.

Sedan är det svårt med beskrivnigar, citat från RAL:"Das Logo der Fluglinie zeigt einen dunkelblauen Kranich (RAL 1028 Melonengelb) auf gelbem Grund (RAL 5022 Nachtblau)"

Still, to help DorSachse, there must be some folks here who know which colors (green, red, grey) are good ones to use for his project. As an alternative there is still ONE GC Rc in orange.

The RAL colour sceme is not very commonly used in Sweden, we mostly use the NCS sceme ( www.ncscolor.com ).

You can find the NCS colour codes for Green Cargo on page 11 in this brochure http://www.greencargo.com/upload/Profilmanual%20090612.pdf
 
If You are interested, I could check what RAL that matches those colours best. But it will only be a more or less close (or bad) match as it is often hard to find RAL equivalents of NCS colours.
You could also order samples of NCS colours and try to decide Yourself how You can match it with the model paints availiable.
